What is really on offer around Cortina and the Tre Cime
Search for a guided hike in this corner of the Dolomites and the first page of results is crowded with coach days from Venice. They are popular, with 1,050 and 816 reviews for the biggest ones, but they are sightseeing drives with lake stops, not hikes. The real hiking supply is much smaller: a short list of local guides and small outfits who each put a few walks on GetYourGuide, most of them new.
That changes how you should read the list. A tour with 2 or 4 reviews is not a warning sign here, it is the normal state of a young listing run by one guide. The site tour of this website, the Tre Cime loop from Misurina, has the deepest record among the true hikes, with 12 reviews and a rating of 4.93. Several others have none yet, which simply means you are early.
What protects you is the booking terms, not the review count. Every guided hike in this comparison refunds you fully when you drop out with 24 hours or more to spare, and payment can wait. That lets you pencil in a date, follow the mountain forecast, and commit only when the sky looks right.
The half-day classic: a guided loop around the Tre Cime
If you only book one guided walk in the eastern Dolomites, this is the obvious one, because it solves the hardest part of the Tre Cime: getting a car up the booked road. The guide collects you in Misurina and drives you up to Rifugio Auronzo, and the toll is part of the price. The listing names that toll as 40 euros per car, and the municipality charges the same for a car in 2026.1
On foot it is a loop of 10 km with 400 m of ascent, over Forcella Lavaredo, past Rifugio Locatelli and back via Forcella Col di Mezzo. The duration label says 5 hours while the itinerary lists 6 hours of hiking, so plan the whole morning or afternoon. It is described as suitable for beginners, and the guide talks you through the geology, the Great War on these slopes, the plants and the animals.
The price starts from $150, the guide speaks English and Italian, and you bring your own lunch, water and rain jacket. For a first hike in the Dolomites it is the easiest way to see the famous north walls without worrying about parking slots, buses or the route.

Day hikes on the Cortina side
West of Cortina the offer is a handful of small-group hikes, each led by a local guide and each with a different flavour. The Cinque Torri hike stays above 2,000 m, runs 7 to 10 km with 400 to 600 m of climb and passes First World War remains, for groups of up to 8, from $231. It has 2 reviews so far.
The Lagazuoi hike starts from the top of the cable car at about 2,800 m and is almost all downhill, 5 to 9 km with 50 to 200 m of ascent, from $265. It suits people who want high views without a long climb. A Passo Giau loop over Rifugio Nuvolau to the Cinque Torri is longer, about 10 km with 700 m of ascent, and it is the cheapest of this group from $116, with no reviews yet.
For a lower, shadier day there is the Gores de Federa gorge walk with pick-up in Cortina: 8 km round trip with 400 m of ascent, open to families with children aged 10 and over, from $173. Bring cash for the hut, because cards are not always accepted up there.

Lake Sorapis with a guide
The turquoise lake under the Sorapis is the other big name, and here the guided option changes the route rather than just adding company. The listing walks a loop of about 12 km with about 700 m of ascent from Federavecchia, reaching Rifugio Vandelli at the lake. Its return has a few slightly exposed sections, and you can come back the same way instead if heights bother you.
It is priced from $125, it has 4 reviews with a perfect score, and it is guided in Italian, English, French and Spanish. Bad weather means a new date or a full refund. If you are short of time and staying in Venice, a private version with an alpine guide does the classic path from Passo Tre Croci as an 11-hour day, but it starts from $2,302.
Compare that with the Cortina tourism office's own description of the self-guided route: rated for experts, 4 hours and 10.5 km, with metal ladders and wire-protected ledges after a flat start.34 The lake page of this site goes through both versions in detail.
Longer, private and unusual formats
Multi-day guided trekking is almost absent from the listings. The closest thing to hut-to-hut walking is a 2-day trek to the summit of Mount Popera with a night at Rifugio Carducci, dinner and breakfast included, for up to 7 hikers. A second 2-day trek crosses the Marmarole with a night at a mountain lodge. Neither has reviews yet, which is worth knowing before you commit two days.
Private days exist at very different prices. A private Tre Cime walk combined with Lake Braies starts in Misurina and lasts 8 hours, from $438. A private Cinque Torri hike with chairlift and Rifugio Scoiattoli starts from $1,808. The luxury page compares these in detail.
Other formats sit at the edges of hiking. A sunset and stargazing walk meets at Rifugio Auronzo in the late afternoon for about 6 km with a telescope at the end. And a guided trail run circles the Tre Cime from Lake Misurina, 20 km with 1,000 m of climb at a medium to slow pace, for people with a good level of fitness.
Why the Venice day trips are not hiking tours
It is easy to book the wrong thing, because the best-selling Dolomites day trips sound active. The most reviewed one spends 2.25 hours at Lake Misurina with lunch and a walk and an hour in Cortina, but its itinerary has no Tre Cime stop at all. Another gives you 70 minutes in Cortina and 2 hours at Lake Misurina.
A small-group van day does include the Tre Cime, as a 15-minute photo stop, plus 1.5 hours at Lake Braies. These are good days out for people with one free day in Venice. They are simply a different product, with most of the time spent in a vehicle.
If your goal is to stand under the north walls of the Tre Cime or to walk to Lake Sorapis, you need a local hiking guide or your own feet. That is why the comparison table on this page leaves the Venice coaches out and lists only tours that put you on a trail.
How to pick between them
Start with the hike you want to see, not the price. For the Tre Cime the site tour is the clear match, since it includes the road and has the most reviews. For Lake Sorapis there is one reviewed guided option, and for the Cinque Torri there is one small-group hike with reviews. If you want the guide to build the day around you, the International Mountain Leader day lets you choose among several treks.
Then check the language and group size. Several listings cap the group at 8 or 10, while the Tre Cime loop and the Sorapis hike state no cap. Read each listing's meeting point carefully: Misurina, a closed hotel near Federavecchia and a restaurant near Cortina are all used.
Last, picture the moment you want to bring home. Picking the best Dolomites hiking tours is less about a ranking and more about matching one walk to one wish: the famous walls, the coloured lake, the trenches of the Great War, or a quiet route a guide chooses for you.
